B4VK is an organisation run almost entirely by volunteers who generously donate their time. If you, or your organisation is willing to help out in any capacity, please contact us.

On an ad hoc basis, B4VK also makes call-outs on their Facebook page for as-needed volunteers. This may involve transporting goods around the state, emergency pick and pack sessions and much more.

Below is some standard volunteering roles that we need on an ongoing basis.

Thank you for your interest is volunteering for B4VK! A member of our team will contact you shortly.

Can you or your business act as a drop-off point for B4VK? Locations that we have covered can be viewed on our drop-off points page. This would involve accepting drop-offs of goods for our backpacks at your location at a time that suits you (donors have to contact you to organise a convenient time). Additionally, you would need to transport these goods to our HQ in Cranbourne. If you are interested in acting as a drop-off point, please fill out our volunteering form.

Do you have great specialist skills that you are willing to generously share with B4VK? Examples might be:

  • Graphic design/User experience
  • Social media/marketing
  • Writing skills
  • Video production
  • Finance Management
  • Logistics
  • Operational administration
  • Not for profit strategic planning
If you think you have something to offer, we would love to hear from you.

Get a group of colleagues, friends, or teammates together for a pick and pack day at Backpacks for Vic Kids. It's a fun day out and makes a great team-building exercise for a worthwhile cause. Our B4VK HQ team will be there to provide full briefing instructions. Feel free to bring a small item from our goods page to add to one of the backpacks.

Enjoy handcrafting remotely from your home or social group? B4VK is always looking for new sewers. Our patterns are simple so little sewing experience is required as beginners are supported and learn a few handy skills. Volunteers use donated material, ribbons, elastic and enthusiasm to create items needed to complete baby care bags and drawstring bags. And if you don't want to sew you can knit or crochet baby rugs or clothing to add to the backpacks. Donations of sturdy cotton fabric, elastic, ribbon and sewing thread are another way you can give your support. Several items that our sewing group make:

  • Simple drawstring bags help kids to keep their own toiletries together, neat and tidy.
  • Baby Care Bags, designed especially for B4VK recipients.
  • Stationery bags which are pre-packed with all the stationery kids need to return to school after being relocated.
  • Baby wraps, bunny rugs and blankets.
  • Santa Sacks
  • These items add a wonderful handmade touch to the resources we give to the kids experiencing out-of-home care and emergency accommodation.
If you would like to make our B4VK Toiletry Bags, Stationery Bags or Baby Care Bags specially designed for our B4VK recipients or our Christmas 4 Kids in Care Christmas Sacks, just click on the links provided (as per above) and it will download a pattern to your computer, iPad or smart phone.
